Fabrizio reacted to Arcurus in [Alliance] Bringing faces to Freicoin
    Hi all,
would be nice if we bring more visible faces behind Freicoin, like Mark and Jitmon did here http://freico.in/bios/
I think its good if we describe also a little bit why we support Freicoin in some sentences.

Would be nice if also others join, the more the better!

Here is an suggestion, feel free to suggest changes and correct my unskilled English.
Hopefully it got not too long and too excited

    All the good,
    Arcurus

    UPDATE:
Responsibilities: Basic Income / World Citizens Project , Communication and Cooperation and everything that until now nobody wants to do

One day, when I "googled" for myself, I found on a children's book authors website, who bears the same name as me, an beautiful "destination" that guides me since then:

"Making the world a little bit nicer while having as much joy and fun as possible"

Currently this "destination" happen to bring me to beautiful soals like Mark Friedenbach, Jorge Timón and many others.
Together, inspired by the works of Silvio Gesell, We take our part in creating a world full of complementary currencies, that are brought into being through economic development, charitable action, and the support of global commons, which engender perpetual prosperity through sustainable development.

For me especially the vision of an fair monetary system is very promising. A system where all people around the world would have, through an basic income, or better called "World Citizens Dividend", an fair access to resources, .
Just imagine this one second: An world where nobody has to die, because he did not have some money for food. A world where nobody can be enslaved to pay interest! A world full of freedom to choose his own destiny without having the fear to starve!

Ultimately I hope, that such currencies like Freicoin or Dogecoin, just to mention some, can  lead to an gift based economy where everybody is proud of sharing what he has to give, like it was common in ancient times where we did not number everything.

Lets see what we can do and don't forget to have some joy while doing it, otherwise its not worth!

    Fell free to join!

    See you,

Fabrizio got a reaction from Arcurus in Ubuntu Contributionism / Ubuntu Liberation Movement
Ubuntu Liberation Movement was started in Africa some years ago by Michael Tellinger. The movement has been growing steadily for a while now, and they've started to achieve some really awesome results and have made leaps in progress within the few months now in their home base, Waterval Boven in South Africa. The movement has very similar goals with Freicoin, except their end goal is a world without money.
Here's their home page, if you'd like to find out more: http://www.ubuntuparty.org.za/p/home.html
And their news section, which has been active lately with some beautiful progress updates: http://www.ubuntuparty.org.za/p/home.html

Fabrizio got a reaction from Mollycat in [Query of Interest] Mining + Organic farming project
I've decided to acquire some more mining equipment and got this phunny idea of combining a mining and farming project into one, so lets see if there is any people interested in participating on this

I live in a section of an old barn and during winter times have to use electricity for heating. So far I have heated just this one room I linger in, and last winter replaced my heaters with miners (gpu rigs and antminer s1's), which were enough for this one room. Now I got a dozen more of these miners, so will heat this room + the kitchen area with them
I've also kept a grow tent in my room during the winter time, to produce chillies, tomatoes, cucumbers and salads for my own use. But, since this barn has a lot of room, I thought of expanding the grow area and offer the extra harvest for sale

So, the idea for community mining + farming if theres interest:
I have reserved a small room for the farming expansion and have already decided to go for 3x AntMiner S2's, which should be enough for this room. If there's enough people interested, the space could be expanded further
Income from mining could be shared equally with the Fedde's share system. Electricity costs could be covered in either FRC, or then from the sale of the produce from the farming I could also cover a chunk of the electricity costs, since part of it is free for me.
I could also cover the costs of setting up the space (building materials, pots, growin medium, lights, nutrients etc.)
So what would be needed to be paid by interested people, would be the mining hardware costs + some of the electricity costs ^^

I can get the three S3's cheaply from my friend, and there's a lot of other older hardware for sale in Finnish crypto forums which I could pick up. Seems like the avarage price for 1TH is around 1BTC, but I'd guess if theres enough people to buy a chunk of them, we could get them cheaper

Fabrizio reacted to Arcurus in [FA Hangouts] Online meetings (Hangouts #1 - #4)
Here a short summary from the 4.Hangout:

My connection was not so good, so please correct and add what I missed!

Making Freicoin to a sidechain of Bitcoin
    - As far as I understood Maaku is thinking of making Freicoin to a sidechain of Bitcoin. What that would exactly mean for Freicoin I hope we will get more details soon.

Discussion of Proof of Stake (POS)
    -  Currently Maaku is not so much in favor for proof of stake, but said that he will have a look into the paper I showed him [1].

As far as I understood maakus main arguments against POS:
-- 1. Stake voters can sign two chains without any cost
    -- 2. more complicated
-- maybe more, but my connection was lost...
please add if I have forgotten something (maybe problems with making Freicoin to a sidechain of a POW based chain???)

    My arguments was:
-- To 1. POS combination with Proof of work (POW) as outlined in this paper[1] can make it costly to sign more chains
--  UPDATE: To 1. even in pure POS if an POS voter signs two blocks, other POS voters can ignore his blocks and exclude him for an certain time. This "exclusion" can be done off chain.
-- To 2. also in POW miners need to verify the hole chain
-- currently we have no solution how to build something like republicoin* (in short POS voting) on an POW chain

UPDATE:I opened now an new topic to discuss POW vs POS with more arguments then here: Feel free to take part!
    http://freicoinalliance.com/topic/64-discussion-of-proof-of-stake-pos/

    Republicoin
    - Maaku said that republicoin is on hold until we have a solution, how we could build it on a POW chain
(in short miners could block votes if they control more then 50% of the mining power. The main problem here is, that miners could only let their votes pass and therefore get all coins).

    My argument here:
    - if rebulicoin is mainly vote with coins (something like POS) also the chain itself should be secured with POS, then there is no problem

Currently I am working on an more Detailed Proposal to that.

    Donation matching:
    - maaku said, that it will be raised to 100% if he and jitmon have a better automatic donation cycling detection included.
    - until that happens donation matching will increased to 25%
    My Argument here was:
    - so or so coins can be cycled with using exchanges and so on
    - therefore we should better concentrate on making limits per org and requiring more transparency if an org reaches the limit as outlined in [3].
UPDATE: Maybe we should concentrate more the "Stake voting proposal"[2] that would have not the problem of donation cycling and would be more near to the rebublicoin idea.

    - maaku talked also with Fab about my proposal of advancing the donation matcher [3].
(Sadly my connection was lost, as far as I have understood Fab said, that he will look into that and that maaku will provide some test infrastructure

Registering the Alliance for Donation Matching
    - Registering the Alliance should be fine. The Alliance must not necessarily be an Non Profit as long as the mission statement fits the Freicoin foundations mission statemet.
    - like all other projects that want to apply for donation matching, the Freicoin Foundation directors must vote on that after the Alliance is applies for donation matching.

That was it as far as I can remember.
Please add or correct if I have forgotten something!

Discussed this with maaku on the FA Hangout #4, he can provide hosting for website / tools that are needed. He will also set up the needed accounts/addresses (so that the foundation keys cannot be lost/compromised) in the testnet side when he has the time for it
What we need to do, is the developing & coding part. I will try to help with this I've learned a bit of jQuery and jQuery mobile after the summer time, so will try to help with the development from that front (website to show the data in clear format)

    UPDATE:
Cooperative Bounty (Budget) of 120000 Freicoins is set up
Cooperative means it this case, it can payed out step by step to more then one people.
Bounty for each step can be negotiated.
The tasks can be increased or decreased.
If you want more information message me.

Another solution to make the coins issuing more transparent would be to make an Freicoin explorer who displays that.

    Update:
Arcurus: 15 Freihours (75000 Freicoins) Freicoins matched and ready to give out
Fabrizio: 4 Freihours (20.000 Freicoins)  status: promised
    Fedde: 5 Freihours status: promised

    Hi All,
I think making the Freicoin issuing more transparent for the "normal" guy out there and to make it more regularly like monthly or better weekly or even daily should have our main priority right now.

Maybe we should create a bounty for that?
Or is there someone willing to look into that, I am ready to help, but would be good to have someone who is more familiar with web-programming who can help.

Mainly I see these tasks TODO:
    - 1.  Help to host a sever that runs the donation matching. The "donation matcher" could be filled manually on demand, so there is no big risk to loose funds.
    - 2. Advancing the donation matching script,so that it outputs which organisation got which amount. (At best it would create automatically an html page to display that. Also the current value* on donation time and on payout time would be great to display.
    - 3 Sending an information email to the organisations after matching is done.
    - 4 Advancing the donation matcher, so that it displays donations per organisations and payouts per organisation (both total and per month / year) the same also in the current value*
    - 5.Adding an settable limit per organisation to prevent malicious use. (see below)
    - 6 Advancing the donation matcher, so that it uses multi sigs for its receiving address and advancing it, so that he is run on X different servers that all must sign.
    * At best in average working hours or something like that. Its really time to get rid of this fiat stuff!
To cycling protection: I think there is no need to spend much effort on that right now, because first of all someone can trick it with using exchanges or registering two organisations. So its better to require transparency from the organisations which get a certain amount of Freicoins per month.
So the donation matcher should have a limit per organisation. If that is reached someone has to manually increase the limit after he checked if everything is right with the organisation.
Of course a tool to help to find malicious donations would be nice to have, but is not the priority right now.

A little bit of an added delay, Opencart has been updated to 2.0.0 so the payment module needs a bit of tweaking. Fedde's already on it though, so expecting that it wont take too many days

Hehe, but, is your friend a chilliehead? I just got a new batch of chillies grown in Finland, so could do a special mix for him Options range from mild & tasty to HOT as PERKELE! The onset is tweakable too, from instant burning to a really slow buildup

Thank you Arcurus for starting this thread I'd see it beneficial to drive this through as the next thing ^^
I support the description and your nominations for the people to hold the coins, as their identities are public/known in the community. Though, for me, I would like to keep mine "private", but dont mind to disclose it within the community.. if thats not an obstacle and another holder is needed, I'll sign up for it

I think all these points are acceptable to me and will help us move forward in the FA.

I would suggest we have at least 2 people with control and an alternate if someone can't fulfill the duties.

I volunteer to be an alternate at this time as I would have a conflict of interest with while being a guarantor for the loan from the FA in the micro loan pilot project.

    This works for me.

Fabrizio reacted to Arcurus in Register Freicoin Alliance to Freicoin Foundation donation matching
    Hello Freicoiners,
I think its now time that we bring the Freicoin Alliance to next level and register it on the Freicoin Foundation web for donation matching.
This would mainly have two benefits:
First of all bounties like the current mobile wallet bounty could be doubled with the matched Freicoins.
Second the Alliance would be a good community driven test case for the Freicoin Foundation matching program.

    What we need to do?
First of all we need a description, that can be something like that:

"The Freicoin Alliance is a Freicoin Community driven project that seeks to create a world where commonplace non-usurious complementary currencies inspired by the works of Silvio Gesell are brought into being through economic development, charitable action, and the support of global commons and which engender perpetual prosperity through sustainable development."

    UPDATE:
And here an suggestion for an short description:
Help the Freicoin Community to create a world full of charitable action and sustainable development - Help to to propagate Freicoin!

Second, we need someone to hold the registered Freicoin address.
I suggest, that the Freicoin Alliance itself tries to not hold funds for a long time period.
The funds itself should go after the matching directly to Freicoin Community projects like the bounty for the mobile wallet.
So the Alliance would not need to hold any funds for a long time period.

    I suggest
Bicknellski, Fedde and Mollycat for taking care of the donation matching address.
For community projects like the mobile wallet bounty different caretakers could be found.

    UPDATE: I also suggest Fabrizio

Why I suggest these? Because they have been up to now as far as I can see  the main driving forces to build up the Alliance.
And no I didn't ask them until now, so lets see what they say

By the way, thank you all for what you have done for Freicoin! The Alliance is a great step forward for the Freicoin Movement!

As always if you have any suggestions / comments feel free to post!

    [item] Vihta / Vasta
[Description] Hand made Birch vihta. Consists of branches from Betula pendula and Betula pubescens species. Made during this past summer, under the instruction of an oldschool viking spirited geezer The leaves are firmly attached to branches, so should be good for couple of sauna sessions for one brute Collected from forests of Etelä-Savo, where nearest "big" city is 35 km away.

[Comments] What is a vihta you ask? Well, as already tipped in the description, its something used in sauna Vihta is a collection of dozens of birch branches, with leaves still attached, tied together.. kinda like a collection of flowers This stick bouquet though, is used during sauna sessions to whack yourself all over the body, while shouting PERKELE!!! ... The yelling part is optional though, but proper vikings put their soul into it, hehehe
If you dont know what sauna is... you're missing out on some good enjoyment! Educate yourself on wikipedia: Finnish Sauna
Using a vihta in sauna can boost your blood circulation and clean your skin. Birch leaves also have beneficial properties and are used in traditional healing and aroma therapy.

[special Notes] A little bit of a sales pitch here, but the viking spirited geezer who showed and instructed me how to make these vihtas properly, suffered some health issues and is currently in hospital care. I will dedicate the funds from the sale of these vihtas towards his care If you havent had a sauna session with a vihta, I would really appreciate if you'd try once with one of these ^^

    [Quantity available] *ugh*... ?
    [Min. order] 1 vihta

Fabrizio reacted to Mark Friedenbach in Freicoin & sidechains: open for business!
There are a couple of things you could mean by this, so I'll address
the ones I can think of. If you meant something else, let me know.

    1. Within the sidechain paper we talk of the bitcoin mainchain and an
indefinite number of sidechains which share the bitcoin currency as an
imported asset. What this actually means is that on each of the
sidechains there exists an issued asset native to that chain, whose
issuance mechanism involves verifying that a corresponding number of
bitcoins were sent to a locking script of a particular form. Those
bitcoins are unlocked by provably undoing the issuance (locking or
destruction) on the sidechain side. We use bitcoin in the paper as an
example, freicoin could just as easily be the currency involved, so
long as demurrage is accounted for correctly.

This means that there are two assets on two different chains, the
bitcoins on the bitcoin chain, and the sidechain-bitcoins on the
sidechain, which are guaranteed to have approximately the same
value. This is because if there is any change in valuation due to
swings in supply and demand, someone somewhere will arbitrage away the
difference using the two-way peg. However since the proofs involved
are quite large the peg has a cost in terms of transaction fees, and
it takes a significant amount of time to execute a peg transfer. As a
result there will be a market for doing more efficient cross-chain
transfers by matching supply and demand parties, then executing
    e.g. an atomic swap protocol.

That is to say, even though bitcoins and sidechain-bitcoins (or
freicoins and sidechain-freicoins) are nominally equal valued,
friction in the transmutation process will still ensure that there is
a spread between bids and asks in a market offering faster exchange
between the two. There will be room in this space for both exchange
    operators and liquidity providers.

    2. The prime justification for implementing sidechains is to achieve
permissionless innovation -- the ability to create new features on a
new block chain while reusing an existing digital scarcity, such as
bitcoin or freicoin. One of the features oft requested, and one which
Jorge and myself have spent considerable time investigating, is the
ability to self-issue redeemable assets, and to exchange these assets
in a p2p, decentralized marketplace. We have called this proposal
freimarkets, and intend to implement it on the freicoin block chain,
with the permission of the community of course.

Freimarkets represents the future of exchanges in general: a protocol
for exchanging bids and asks over a peer-to-peer network, with miners
matching orders in a truly decentralized marketplace. So the answer to
your question might be that the freicoin block chain, with freimarkets
extensions for issued assets and freicoin as a native fee currency, is
the future of digital asset exchanges, replacing current centralized
    "trust me" models.

    3. It occurs to me that by "current exchanges" you might be talking
about the asset pairings on existing exchange markets, e.g.
    BTC/LTC or BTC/DOGE. I hesitate to give forward-looking
statements. Markets are ultimately psychological, and assets are given
value because people value them (and that is not a recursive
statement). However speaking on purely technical grounds, it is hard
to imagine what value is left for just about every altcoin out there
once its technical innovations (if any) can be accessed with bitcoin
    via a sidechain.

Thankfully freicoin is excluded from this analysis, and not because
I'm biased Freicoin's demurrage keeps it from competing with
bitcoin from either the bitcoin or freicoin perspective. But likewise
it could be said that network effects prevent litecoin from having any
utility in a sidechain universe, neither would clones of freicoin.

I certainly support these efforts: I've contributed to the android
wallet bounty. I'm not sure how the existence of sidechains could be
expected to impact the viability these wallet efforts, other than
requiring some work down the line to add sidechain feature support.

Once there exist sidechains, there will need to be effort invested in
making alternative wallets support these sidechains. This may involve
code being written for Electrum, bitcoinj, Green Address, and other
wallet software. Hopefully this work can be easily ported to their
    freicoin versions.

Depends on the application I suppose. Kinda hard to answer without
knowing what you had in mind :\

There is plenty of room for bridge services to operate on top of a
sidechains enabled freicoin with freimarket extensions. Such service
providers would use more trustless technology to achieve the bridge,
holding customer funds for the smallest period of time possible, or
not at all. Neither sidechain technology nor freimarkets removes the
need for such players in the ecosystem.

Deployment of sidechain technology will require changes to
freicoin. By staying observant to the changes that we are proposing,
and evaluating them yourself you both keep us honest and make sure
that the changes get sufficient review and are safe to deploy.

Deployment may involve adoption of merged mining. In this case we need
alternative mechanisms in place to maintain the community during the
transition period. There have been talks on IRC about a curecoin
approach of spending some of the foundation's 80% on subsidy for
folding@home work units, thereby enabling GPU "mining" issuance which
helps cure cancer rather than secure the network.

Those who have bitcoin coding skills can help us directly in writing
code. Please contact me or Jorge if you think you fall in this

Sorry guys, I've not been active much lately. Lots of crap has happened in my life these last couple of weeks and I've been rather miserable. Short story is my best mate since I was three just died, and yesterday I cut my bleeding hair off in some vain attempt at feeling better. Well. Anyway, disclaimer up, here's what I've been thinking:

My coding skills are limited to html and css at best. So building a search engine, well, it's not my table, but though I changed the title to involve a search engine, well, as Fabrizio says, it's an obstacle, but it doesn't have to be one, and I am not really sure what to call this eh site or THING. Cause the thing is, how we can make the site self sustainable? Meaning that somehow, (users) perhaps from being rewarded in satoshis or simply for the fame and glory (they're still out there), there must be a dynamics here, that in the process of posting a requested solution to a problem, tagging and categorising these requests and solutions is what will be the first vital thing, and there must be a system of rating to find the best solutions and some system for automatically moderating, it could easily turn out to be too bloody impossible to waste ones time with. But. Like, if you want to know for instance "why water is heavier than air?", you will have to tag your question with keywords the user would expect his solution from. If the user wants the scientific dry factual approach, he'd hook off "physics, thermo dynamics..." whatever he'd expect the solution to include. However, this guy may want to know how Plato or Archimedes would explain it, or for that matter what the Bible has to say about it, so then he'd put those keywords in his request. See where I'm going?

I figured I could make some kind of mock-up demonstration when I have a clearer picture, showing features I'd expect this, eh, THING (search engine or what one should call it), to include. I thought about a format using the concept from quizzies like there is a radio show in Norway called "20 questions". The contestants must name a word a listener has sent in, and they can ask the host up to 20 questions to find the correct word, well, you get it. Typically the first question is whether this word is describing something in the mineral kingdom, animal kingdom or plant kingdom etc. and then they start searching. Perhaps there could be some kind of set framework, or some standard questions users must answer, I don't know?

I haven't tossed this in the bin just yet, for I believe it is a good idea. This product isn't out there as far as I can see. Closest I get is youtube.com, answers.com and google.com, it has element of all three, which if put together, this Right! thing could potentially enhance the internet experience much like these three mentioned sites did when they showed up. You'll never know, you know....

I think we need to list a few important questions for Mark so he can give us some insight.

I have a few but others should read the paper and think about the implications of sidechains and ask some probing questions to help us focus our efforts inside the FA.

    1. How might this affect current exchanges?
    2. How should we in the FA proceed with things like the Android based Wallet?
    3. Do we need to wait for sidechains if we are trying to get bootstrapped applications that might need new coding for sidechains?
    4. How might this affect current service providers like cointopay does this make them obsolete or will they have to work on a new adaptation to sidechains when they are live?
    5. How can we help support bootstrapping before during and after the implementation of sidechains? Meaning what areas should we focus on?

Fabrizio got a reaction from Arcurus in [FA Hangouts] Online meetings (Hangouts #1 - #4)
As I have now little more free time to spend on the computer, I'll try to schedule and arrange some of these meetings with audio+text, and if needed, video at some point.

I'm hoping we could get weekly meetups going and a place to Freicoin community to get to know each other better I'd think these would also help align some projects.. or allow people currently watching the developments from sidelines to participate more easily ^^

These first meetings will be just for test and get the ball running, but in the future, we could have the meetings recorded and compile/cut the most important or relevant parts of the discussion to be shared more easily in social media and with friends I'm willing to do the recording and editing when needed.

I will also try to note down the topics and main points of discussion from meetings, to be shared in this thread.

As I've taken a liking to Mumble (open source project with great security) for voice chats on the internets, lets start these meetings with testing it out for our needs It is also available for Android phones, under the name of "Plumble Free".
There is free public servers we can use to start with, but also a private server can be set up if required.
Mumble allows both, audio and text chat, so we could use that solely for the meeting, but I think we should still allow people to voice their questions and comments in IRC as well.

So, if you wish to participate in the audio part of the meeting (you dont have to talk if you dont wish, you can just listen in), have Mumble installed:

Fabrizio reacted to Mark Friedenbach in Freicoin & sidechains: open for business!
By this point I assume that everyone here has heard about the new venture capital funded startup that is making waves in the Bitcoin space with its public unveiling and the release of the sidechains whitepaper. You may have also noticed that beyond being co-authors of the paper, Jorge and myself are co-founders of this new company. I’ll avoid mentioning it by name because I want to speak to the Freicoin community here, not people finding this thread through Google. Why are Jorge and myself proponents of sidechains? Why have we joined up with an ostensibly bitcoin-focused company? What does this mean for Freicoin? I hope to answer these questions.

The promise of sidechains is simple: by pegging asset value across chains, users are given the freedom to apply functionality of one chain (e.g. privacy offered by monero, or p2p markets provided by freimarkets) to assets originating on another (e.g. bitcoin or freicoin). Want to send your coins anonymously? Send them to a chain that supports ring signatures or zerocash protocol. Want to participate on a peer-to-peer marketplace? Send your coins to a chain that supports native asset extensions, such as freicoin with the freimarkets extensions.

Sidechain is a new word for a rather old concept -- we had an early semi-trusted version of it in our first freimarkets proposal. Certainly the concept pre-dates bitcoin itself, as payment network gateways fulfill a similar role in the legacy financial system. However the trustless setup invented in whole by Greg Maxwell and independently in pieces by numerous others allows the gateway role to be fulfilled without trusting anything other than correct operation of a mechanical system. No longer is there a service in the middle able to steal funds or operate on fractional reserve, or the systemic risk which arises from such behavior being commonplace.

So, sidechains are exciting because they allow permissionless innovation. The two-way peg allows innovation in the space of block chain applications without fragmenting the marketplace with a new free-floating p2p currency for each project. The return peg is, in a way, the last major change that need ever happen to bitcoin or any cryptocurrency, the one change to rule them all.

Some people have over-hyped sidechains as “the death of altcoins.” I don’t like this language, but if sidechains harold the death of any coins, it is clone coins which have no differentiating characteristics from bitcoin. There is no longer any reason for native currencies to exist on namecoin, monero, zerocash, or other such “feature chains.” But worry not: freicoin is different species of currency which behaves different from bitcoin: the fixed inflationary or demurrage currency. Because such a currency is fundamentally compatible with bitcoin and able to exist side-by-side, freicoin holders need not fear that their niche will someday be displaced by bitcoin.

Rather than be threatened by sidechain technology, freicoin stands to benefit greatly. Freicoin need no longer be isolated in its own ecosystem, or limited by its poor adoption. By introducing desired features, in particular issued assets, privacy enhancing technology, and larger dynamic block sizes, the freicoin block chain could very likely see an influx of users bringing their bitcoins to our chain to do business. Open for business is the motto of the new freicoin block chain containing two-way pegged assets such as bitcoin.

Jorge and myself are particularly motivated to work on sidechain technology because it makes deployment of block chain technology innovation easier. Freicoin, freimarkets, and republicoin: these are all innovative applications of cryptocurrency technology which could not or would not ever be deployed to the main bitcoin block chain. But they can become accessible to the bitcoin ecosystem by means of the freicoin block chain, if and when freicoin is given sidechain features.

Not only does this bring new users, but freicoin users also stand to benefit from greater integration. By having more services track and support the freicoin block chain, it becomes easier for these services to support freicoin as a transactional currency. Instead of bringing freicoin to the market, we bring the markets home to freicoin.

In summary, by fixing longstanding issues in the bitcoin ecosystem, freicoin stands to gain new users and strengthen its position. And unlike other potential sidechains, freicoin has a perpetual mining subsidy through its native demurrage currency that gives our block chain mining incentives that are known to work, providing security buffer other sidechains would be lacking. Even if these new users primarily transact in bitcoin, this remains a tremendously good thing for holders of freicoin currency.

That’s the vision. But to get from here to there requires quite a bit of work, much more than is possible to be done by a few volunteers. By founding a company around sidechains and getting funded, we have been able to secure the resources necessary to make sure that not only sidechain technology gets implemented and deployed, but also all the cool extensions to bitcoin (e.g. freimarkets) that inspired us to propose sidechains in the first place.

Our employment contracts were specifically constructed such that the company has no claim to the intellectual property underlying freicoin, the freicoin code base, the freicoin branding, or anything else about the freicoin project, now or going into the future. Furthermore we have a specific moonlighting exception that allows us to continue contributing to freicoin moving forwards, including merging into freicoin of open-sourced code written for the company’s own products. And while I cannot be specific about what the company is working on right now, needless to say Jorge and I were brought in because of our work on freimarkets and other extensions of the bitcoin protocol we originally proposed to be implemented on the freicoin block chain. As such open source technology matures within the company, we will be regularly merging such features that are desired by the freicoin community into the freicoin reference client.

I'm drafting another post detailing what I foresee as a potential freicoin development roadmap, including both ideas for rebranding and hard fork features that might make it in 2015. In the mean time, I'd be happy to entertain any questions about sidechains and their impact to freicoin. Additionally, barring any technical glitches I'll be participating in the Freicoin Alliance meeting as well.

[Price] Half a bottle of spirits, maybe?
