  1. In Blab? There doesnt seem to be an option for it, but the system will recognize your connection speed and disable the video automatically if your connection is too slow. It will still try to stream the audio.. so with a real slow connection, it will lag out the chat :( The audio doesnt take too much bandwidth, but the website itself is a bit heavy.. not too bad though, so hopefully theres some internet cafes around there that can handle it :) Around what part of India are ye at?

*edit: In mumble you can choose the voice quality from the client, so you can set it as low as 8kbit/s.

  2. Chillies PERRKELE! ;)
And yeah, saved a bunch on the heating bill + the chillies was fraction of the price compared to buying from grocery store :)
If buying all the equipment solo, its a pretty hefty bill (miner + tent/grow room setup + light(s) + pots, grow medium, seeds/plants, etc. + power costs) to start if one is living in poverty. However, with crowdfunding/crowdlending or sharing costs with co-op its a great way to start aiming for self-sustainability :) It pays back the investment after few grow cycles.

It's not too rare anymore to see restaurants, markets and other food businesses to have their own small indoor- or rooftop farms in the cities nowdays. So when combining the mining+farming idea with an restaurant start up or co-op, you could have even more savings along with better benefits and possibilities for community participation ^^

  3. Was just me and Bick so we decided to just try out the system and not record this time.
The platform however was very nice! Definately something we should use for the community hangouts from now on. We're gonna try to have a blab/hangout once a week.
There are some limits on Blab currently, so we can use Mumble/alternative for the occasions (more than 4 active speakers, to discuss something confidential, etc.).

But lets continue in the Blab thread:

  4. Lets try this tomorrow!

    https://freicoinalliance.com/topic/113-alliance-how-do-we-proceed/#entry1412

I would like to suggest a standing meeting time for Blab.im. It is an open video chat format that we can record and upload to YouTube.

One thing we are lacking is a following. Miners particularly and given the weakness of the coin it might be important that we do more to be inclusive. I think an open format where we can discuss Freicoin and a universal income might be a good way to draw more subscribers to Freicoin.

Here is the first Blab come talk about Freicoin here everyone. We can adjust the time. All you need is a twitter account.

    https://blab.im/darin-m-bicknell-freicoin-alliance-presents-the-future-of-freicoin-a-digital-currency

    Tuesday January 12th @ 11:00am Jakarta Time

See you there everyone. Let us discuss the FUTURE of FREICOIN. The Freicoin Report will be a weekly show for the FA. I will be there each week. If you want to change the time let me know I am available anytime to do this.

    I will host and moderate.

    Show Notes:

    1. Basic introduction of Freicoin.

    2. Introduction of FA members in attendance.

    3. Discuss the Future of Freicoin.

    4. Audience Q & A.

    5. Basic information on how to contact the Freicoin Alliance.

  5. Hehehe, yeah :) I'm still surprised there not being more demurrage experiments in crypto-sphere.. especially since Basic Income topic is getting more and more popular ;)

But anyways.. about Mazacoin.. yeah, I can see its not that special altcoin/altchain from the surface looks of it for many. Indeed there's not much to differentiate it from the most other altchains on the technical side, but for me, the projects goals and aimed community is an exciting environment :) Too long of a subject to give mi full view on the project, so I'll just say I'm very hopeful that MAZA, with its dedicated and skilled developers, will offer real-life solutions and possibilities for the Native American communities to truly have independence and flourish as a nation ^^

I agree on the voice :) Though I can understand if some of us that have english as second language and are a bit rusty with it, are not too eager for that.
So.. mabby would be nice if everyone could join the voice chat and listen in, but also have everyone on certain IRC/SILC/other chat channel, so people who dont have the possibility/will to talk could comment on the chat :)

  6. Adding one more in relations to the mining and using the head for useful co-projects. I had this running in small scale last winter (thread here: https://freicoinalliance.com/topic/63-query-of-interest-mining-organic-farming-project/).

    So the idea is:
In areas where it gets sub zero temperatures in winter time, or are generally too cold climates to grow certain plants, establishing an green room that is heated by mining equipment would allow several benefits.

Even if the mining gear is second hand / older generation of miners, you still get discount in the electrical bill. Depending on the starting budget, it could be cheaper than the alternative heating methods in many places from what I gather? If able to buy higher efficiency miners that is :)
This would also support the decentralization of mining (via shared mining systems*) and allow other common-good oriented projects to be started and supported.

*Share system: platform which the people participating in the group buy/shared investment use for automatically distribute the mining income based on the % of the price of the mining equipment individual had paid.
(FA/fedde has a working platform for this already BTW :))

  7. Ucoin is indeed an interesting project with an active (yet small contributing group) development.
To get started with the experimenting, heres few links:

https://forum.ucoin.io/t/subscribing-to-meta-brouzouf-testing-currency/199 (short guide with links to installing Sakia (the lite client) and taking the first steps to "register")

Post your user ID's here if you're registered! :)

    My ID is 'Fabrizio'

And mi certification request thread on the forums: https://forum.ucoin.io/t/asking-for-certifications-fabrizio/638/

Hopefully we can get FA support for experimenting with this tool/project together in the future :)

  8. Hey Rik! :)

With MAZA circles I mean the Mazacoin developers and community :) They're also a small community, but the developers are pretty active and have done some nice contributions to Bitcoin-sphere over the years ^^
(Two cool projects for both bitcoin+altcoins from those guys: https://github.com/mazaclub/hashmaland https://github.com/mazaclub/encompass)

Their channels on IRC (@freenode): #MAZA and #MAZA-dev | and webpage: https://mazacoin.org(theyre doing website upgrade currently, apparently aiming towards more community orientation/interaction?)

But unfortunately nope, havent gotten the people together to have the meeting. The start of the year seems to be busybeeing for most :D
Teehee, I will have to start bugging people a bit to try and have this meeting held, I'd be so excited to work on any projects fitting the Freicoin ideals for common-good goals! Like MAZA, I'd see it beneficial to have the websites updated with more up-to-date information.. and possibly on a platform that allows more easy&flexible ways for community participation (like IPFS+Github etc.) :)

Rik, would you be interested in participating? What would you prefer as the platform; forum/IRC/voice/other? :)

  9. Alright! I'll try to PERRKELE them Maza guys a bit and get them post their availability for the early next week :)

The donation matching script topic could be a little FRC specific and we could have it on the FA meetup maybe, but the other topics would be relevant for this hangout as well ^^

I think the Maza peoples are looking to upgrade their website and other stuff too, so we could try to agree on some common tools (like IPFS) and procedures to align better co-working :)

*edit: BTW, some cool IPFS tools listed in here: https://github.com/ipfs/awesome-ipfs

  10. Ohh yeah, and one further idea related to the energy generation opportunities and maximizing energy efficiency in relations to benefits from crypto side:

In areas where electrical heating for houses is needed, heat generated by miners could be used.

So a platform to allow "I can host miners" and "I have miners to be hosted" adverts could be useful.
For example, if one would have an old miner that draws 1000W from the wall and the local kW/h price is 10 cents -> one could put an advert to pay someone 2 cents for each kW/h used by the miner. Basically offering a 20% discount for part of the heating costs.

When someone would agree to host the miner -> deliver the miner and get it running -> When electricity bill comes, the hoster pays it normally -> gets money back from the miners owner.

Naturally, someone with a way to generate a lot of power cheaply could post hosting adverts.

  11. We should prolly clean up the forum sections a bit? :) The Freicoin Community section could be removed / moved / combined to some more general section? And maybe Freirepublic / FreiEconomy could be moved under Alliance? Maybe also create new sections for more general topics. AndAndAnd! :D

Lets try to have that meeting the coming week guys, to get the party started! :)

  12. Little shorter idea example: Offering IT support or other remote/online help

Platform that would allow profiles to be made and online/available presence to be set. Would also need a chat system for easy way to contact the individuals offering support/expertizes.

Would allow people to earn little extra income when needed from time to time.

Example: Someone could set up a profile and advertize common IT-Support. When the one would have extra time along the day, like when killing time on the internets, one would login to the platform -> change online status to available. If someone on the platform would need help, they could contact the person available -> agree on price (smart contracts? :)) -> do the task via remote connection (teamviewer for example).

Could allow both "Help available" and "Help needed" postings to be listed.

  13. Heres an example to start with. Shoutout to #MAZA peeps, idea'd this thought around with them on their IRC channel :)

In many places around the world it is still pretty common to have to use diesel/petrol/gas generators for having electricity in the house even for whats considered basic needs in "modern" world.. for lights, cooking, shower, charging the laptop, phone or other mobile devices, etc. Theres even places like this in the midst of the western societies, in US too, with pretty dire situations in communities.. like in the Native American reservations.
Today, there is great small alternatives out there for producing and managing electricity instead of using these fossil fuel powered generators and such :)

Batteries and capacitators are becoming more and more efficient and cheaper and it's pretty easy to DIY an batterypack that can handle running the lights of the house, charging mobile devices and other small electrics. DIY batterypacks powerful enough to run heavy load cooking appliances get pretty expensive.. but we'll start with the small things first! (Tesla has done some cool advancements too in the scene, check out their PowerWall https://www.teslamotors.com/powerwall)

Where would the batteries be charged?
    :)
Thats where the opportunities are! Individuals could start to think up ways on how to generate power cheaply and efficiently.. and offer that as a service.

For example, someone who cycles to work or otherwise likes cycling, could purchase a couple of batteries, small bicycle generator and the needed electronics for hooking them up to ones bike for less than 50usd.
One could use the power to save on electricity costs oneself, or then "rent" those charged batteries to someone who has the need. Since being a cyclist, one could offer home delivery and/or on-site services too :) Added bonus for deliveries, more power generated on the "work" trip.

One that would be beneficial for common health as well, would be to have small generators installed on exercise equipment in gyms and such. Gym keepers could offer a battery charging service on the side and offer discounts to the gymnists. Or alternatively sponsor local sports events.. or offer free memberships for the poor.. or getting for some inspirational athlete to visit the gym/school, etc. etc. :)
If the gym itself would be an community owned / common good project with transparent fund management, it could be easily used to fund or drive other projects in that local community by voting ^^

Another obvious would be solar/wind/atmospheric/water/etc. energy generation. Staring investment would be bigger, but with a small group to benefit together, should be relatively cheap :)
The group could offer to charge batteries / supply energy for the bigger community for a small fee.
For an energy/tech enthusiasts there would also be opporturnity to teach and/or build alternative energy generators to others.

Could be started somewhat simply first:
Website for the community to list their services/"businesses"/charging stations
    - Allow anyone to create a profile with social media (facebook) like information
-- Like requiring to selecting profile "type": individual/co-op/business/etc (for easier searching/filtering for users)
    - Allow anyone (or additionally require confirm by the community, etc) to list an advert/offer
-- Require pricing in [price / kW/h] or similar easy-to-compare price
     -- Require location
-- Require delivery range if applicable
    - Allow anyone list and search for adverts
    - Have a "shopping" basket / allow payment to be made on the platform, but also allow the payment to be f2f.

Simple example :) So that could ofcourse be extended and detailed more, like which blockchain related and/or opensource tools to use, but main point is to get some ideas rolling! We can later iron the platform requirements after getting more different ideas for use cases and feature needs :)

  14. Posting this thread here in the Economy section instead Freicoin directly, since these ideas should be usable for other communities with similar goals as well :)

Today there would be lots of opportunities to offer simple common good tasks for the unemployed and other people looking to supplement their income. Be it whatever that causes the governments to be slow to react, they're not seemingly aiming to adopt these technologies anytime in the near future.. but hopefully, we should already be able to establish some parts of the changes we want to see within our local communities ourselves :)

Like we've seen from late Bitcoin happenings, it's very useful to provide clear explanations and examples of the things and thoughts you're trying to convey. Good graphics are often very illuminating ;)

So yeah, lets get some ideas going on how to allow more possibilities for anyone within a community to participate - and get rewarded - in common-good activities.
The ideas can be about anything random that could be useful to someone, dont need to be that detailed and can be oneliners, so short ideas and comments are also very welcome! :)

The aim here is to come up with the different needs for different kinds of communities, to lay out the features needed in a platform(s) to accommodate these ideas.
  15. A bit of quiet time in the Freicoin Alliance for the 2015 as most of us have had life take us to different activities and paths to walk on, but - be it a leading by the spirits, signs of the times, or just coincidence - many of us are coming back together for the beginning of 2016! :) And since there seems to be a lot of similar minded and enthusiastic people around the cryptoscene, who have been pondering on and working with common questions to build beneficial features and layers for different communities during the year.. we should start sharing resources and working with other groups more!
So lets try to have an open meetup!

Shoutout to guruvan from the MAZA circles! :) Have had very similar ideas and inspiring convos with him the past week and got me to get this thread started ^^

    When - Week 2 / 2016 ?
    Where -

     -- Mumble, server: mumble.freicoinalliance.com

     -- IRC, channel: #??? (@freenode?)
     -- SILC, channel: #??? (@silc.freicoinalliance.com)

    Duration - 2 hours

Topics - Ideas & tools for community oriented common good projects.

    - What features/functionality is beneficial to different scenarios or services

    - What platforms are already out there that offers such features (Bitcoin, IPFS, Ethereum, Colored Coins / other token systems, etc. etc.)

    - What tools/services are already out there that offers services that could be used to benefit communities working on interesting/beneficial platform?

    - What community tools are available to tinker "tailored" feature packages for building a system for the shared ideas?

Time is still prettymuch open, but lets aim for during the week 2 :) Leave dates and times you would be available!

Also feel free to comment with any topics, ideas and/or projects you see beneficial!

  16. Hey Arc! Hope you've had a merry christmas :)

But ayeh! Very much along the same lines of thinkin myself too :) I'd like to see people offer anything they like to do and get coins for it (kinda related to Basic Income) ^^ While there needs to be some kind of trust system at the big scale, we can start with small group and certain activities that we can have trusted in a community setting. And like mentioned, theres also a lot of tools to enhance and automate some of them processes :)

So what I would be most interested in doing, is get some kind of set of tools combined to establish a platform for having those kinds of things listed. And similar to what we've discussed in the project ideas topics, a way for making use of micropayments for simple answers or small help tasks could benefit the communities/societies quite a bit. Offer a way for people to establish ways to earn small income tid from here and bit from there :)

  17. Some playing around done the past month and IPFS feels more and more as something to change the internet world :) It's gotten few new tools and projects to complement the tech, along with nice updates to the existing ones ^^

IPFS is very easy to promote, as it can be demoed on all web browsers just by showing a normal looking website, but explain its working on IPFS :) "Its just like the internet, it just works behind the scenes differently"

Hosting stuff on IPFS is very simple too. It does quire installing an package, but its similar in installation to iTunes and such.

Ethereum indeed seems to offer quite powerful features... but I'm very much too novice with code to do any majik with them :P So at first it'd be probably easoer to look into the centralized way of doing things :)

  18. I liked the idea in this thread: Freicoin Giveaway to encourage cooperation, sharing of knowledge and a non harming fair economy

For example, giveaway for the hosting of content related to Freicoin and related ideals.. books, videos, documentaries, website, etc.. on IPFS could help establish the tools and layout - and the needed experience of the usecases - to pave away for more complex ideas of experimentation. Like the governance topic :)

This should be relatively easy to get automated since we are paying out from central point and we can have simple condition(s) for being eligible for the giveaway :) This also should be somewhat easy to tinker together since theres a number of github projects for monitoring the nodes according to many needs ^^

  19. So here is my suggestion:

Everybody is welcome to post a project suggestion in the Alliance Forum:

If the projects wants to speak / act on behalf the Alliance / the Freicoin Community, or wants direct support from the Alliance / Freicoin Community it needs at least the support (likes) of 2 "well known"* members / donors of the Freicoin Community. The title of these projects should be marked with [?Alliance?]

All projects that have this support and are not "vetoed" out and therefore can speak / act on behalf the Alliance / the Freicoin Community as far as it is related to their project are marked with [Alliance] and listed in Running Projects.

This is an interesting on-going developing area, governance with blockchain platforms :) Excited to see what kinds of inventions will thrive from around that subject :D

We could decide to do some experimenting on those with FA. Theres some interesting work and tools out there, like the DASH stuff you linked here in the forums, so something to build on :)

Though, on this area.. the governance and the problem of identity on blockchain.. I'd see to be a bit of work to be done.. some wide open questions and "problems" to be solved before getting it easy enough to relate to in an user experience sense *hmm*

And so, since we're still also a small group of people with similar views, common goals and doing it from the good of our hearts, we should be able to atleast somewhat easily agree on which projects to spend time and support on :)

So maybe we dont need to hone the process and rules that much yet, but decide within the FA for easy distribution for the time being :) Of course, communicating on the forums with transparency and community voice in mind (which has been pretty nonexisting for the past years though if we're hones ;)) is always beneficial and should be done :) The idea for the thread title for [?Alliance?] (or maybe [?FA?]? :) is goodie *nods*

Spending time with experimenting with tools and services for other uses / relatable services and getting some kind of user base would be more beneficial for current situation I'd see :)

  20. Coming back to this now that I've gotten some things tied together and some nice insightful discussions, with few peoples already, that are on similar lines of thinking and starting to organize more shared community activities :)

    *clip*

First of all we should be as transparent as possible with what we / the Alliance / The Freicoin Community does.

Second we should only do projects that have large support.

    *clip*

Transparency is an area of interest for me too :) Would be really interesting to start experimenting with as-transparent-as-made-possible-with-available-tools kind of an system. Some people have already thought some obvious "problems" with these totally transparent systems, but usually with the pre-blockchain era.. so there could be some positive new ideas around there somewhere for further technology development for offering solutions those earlier thought-to-be-obvious questions :)

Large support :) I'm with you with the thinking and the ideas regarding veto & majority thinking.. but there aint too big group of us yet ^^
But for sure, since theres just a few of us in the FA for now, we prolly should indeed aim to concentrate working on few things together :)

Third, we should keep the process as simple and informal as possible.

Yes! Also totally agree here :)
Aiming to have the user experience easy and familiar is probably a good thing to keep in mind for the processes and tools we want to use or experiment with. Easier it is for "common folks" to sign up or try things out, the more chance of getting contributing and experimenting users being mi thinking here.
    So simplicity..

For that, I think that once we get our aims sighted at the things we wanna work towards with Freicoin Alliance, we have very good availability of open source tools out there to combine the use of few of them and tinker a tailored toolset with the features needed for the specific goals :)

    Informal as possible..
Also agree that having clear explanations and sharing all the information is a thing to do (goes along with the transparency), but maybe pushing them too much isnt always wise :) Kinda related to the user experience and the familiar experiences, we prolly should have a working toolset for use and use those "infobubbles" in keywords or [?] buttons near related features field for explainers from the start.

Of course, a thread, articles, maybe wiki and such should also be ready to go, to refer to in the infobubsies, but not used as "primary" channel for communicating features. My thinking being; it'd be nice to be able to say "Heres the link [FreiTool], and try it out" when asked about the system.. without the need for long logins or account creation.. or linking to explanation sections at FAQ's or forums.. but actual usecasing the tool itself for that specific question  :)

Have been a very excited about this project already a while :) The project and ideals really seem to align and benefit the vision of people currently around Bitcoin Core development ^^ I have good hopes for this to be a core impacting technology/protocol/layer in near future ^^
