*project done for summer 2016 // possible winter project coming later*

The basic idea is to use the heat generated by ASIC miners to some productive activity; farming for food/base materials in this case, to allow to have saving in the electricity bill.
This project #0 is also serving to be another example of usecase for Freicoin / cryptocurrencies in general by aiming to use community oriented and decentralization aiming tools. I will try to aim to keep this project as "low-entry" to participate as possi

*edit: To be finished :) dont post on this thread yet, lets use the old thread for discussing:

  2. Cool, interesting project that I had not yet come across ^^ Future looks great since there is obviously many folks out there aiming for more open democracy and ways to vote :)
Reading thru the whitepaper, some questions were left open though, similar what seems to be the same bottleneck for other projects; how do you achieve adoption / experimenters / users ;)

Like this part, we've had discussions pondering the same kind of things:
    "ELECTION QUALITY
Desirable characteristics of public-sector election mechanics defining what is here called their “quality”
include: (a) high voter turnout, (b) well informed voters, (c) effectiveness of results in shaping
governance, (d) resistance to manipulation through advertising and electioneering, (e) indisputability of
tally, (f) protection against voter corruption or coercion, (g) ensured access to vote casting, (h)
resistance to voter fraud, (i) decisiveness, and (j) low cost."
Freicoin currently lacks in monkey-wrenchingly bad in some of the bolded areas, and the whitepaper doesnt really offer a solution how to ensure these 'Desirable characteristics' ;)

So, a project to follow in the longterm for sure and maybe they can offer an alternative to something like DASH or IPFS.. or maybe FreiMarkets ;D.. but before there is easy-enough and well explained.. instructions/explainers/guides, I'm more into concentrating on these few short-term achieveable projects with FA :)
(haha though, you proved me wrong with the Blab.im platform.. so if you end up tinkering with it and see it useful, gimme a holla and I'll make time for playing :))

  3. Indeed very awesome to see more BI projects poppoing up :) Hehe, linked that same article on the #Freicoin IRC channel earlier today ^^

Have ye also seen the crowdfunded Basic Income style projects? :) Linked these in another thread the other day (the Basic Income links thread).. but since it was an edit, no surprise if ye've missed it, hehe :)

  4. Bick, if you havent already, dont yet delete all of the android wallet data! There is log files somewhere in there which could be useful for developers to debug/fix the problem. I will check the file location and hit up instructions how to get it out from the phone :)

I'll also try to hit up Skirmant to see if he'd have time to check into updates ^^ Though.. lets do this after monday after we can confirm the Freicoin client update/roadmad from maaku :)

*edit: hmmh, cant find the logfile location quickly for androind with ixquick.. and on Jolla it seems to be some custom stuff going (files in linux style folders), so cant help but offer a link; https://testlio.com/question/how-to-get-consolecrash-logs-for-android
... but maybe just go for the cleanout&reistall if thats easier :D More important to get the student experiment going ^^

  5. Yeah, definately need the wallets updated :) I'm not even meaning the Freicoin version number (the current 0.8.3-1 -> 0.9.. not to mention to 0.12 :P), but the building and stability testing of the currently available clients. Would be willing to put a bit from the small amount of coins that I still have available towards this :)

I've tipped my toes a bit more in the world of Github too for the past weeks and will see if I can help maaku & jtimon with the building & testing. Pretty awesome that there is readily available step-by-step guides for setups&instructions for both Linux (Debian without systemd FTW!!! :D) and Windows bouncing around the internets tubes, so a dummie like me can follow along and do some basic magics! :)
Hmm, dont remember if I mentioned elswhere in the forum; but maaku and/or jtimon are apparently looking into updating (or is the correct word 'rebasing'?) the Freicoin version to catch up to Bitcoins 0.9 (or maybe straight 0.12?) version and features... we can hopefully confirm this on monday, since pushin for bounty/getting the developing now for the current version (the 0.8.3-1) started.. might turn out to be waste of bountyfunds and/or developer time (new versions introduce changes to code that will take work).

And yup! We should also recommend the Freicoin developers to register their own entry in the Foundation matching :) Even though I dont think most of them dont "need" or want to get paid.. I mean.. are doing it just for the love for their hobby and offering something good for the world.. I still think its a good idea to have one :)  It's one way for the community to show appreciation for their work and time *hippiesmile*

  6. Hmm...
Pretty interesting! Hadn't look deeply enough in the fishfarming yet :) I'm a bit hippy and would like to aim to have somewhat more.. "natural" for a lack of a better word.. environment to grow in than in blank container, haha :D Not that I have anything against, or bad to say about the minimalistic setups, but since having the chance to ~invest (time, money, etc,) in it a bit, why not do it ^^
After seeing your post Bick, it made me connect a few dots/ideas in mi head.. so I could indeed have this going in the next grow if people like the idea :)

  7. Haha Arc :D Thats my plan! Doing it like the Indian dude (wikipedia) who grew the several hundred hectare forest in the desert.. I'll just aim for an all-year warm paradise oasis :D

Hehe, but yeah, fish farming is for sure something that should be done in bigger scale grows :) Something to maybe aim for in the long run.. lets see nearer the summer time if we really want to establish that and we have the chance for it (funding, participants, space from the town, etc.) :)
For now though, since having small space and readily available equipment for the growing stuff, lets start with that ^^

  8. Ohh, this one is pretty nice, shiny and tiny IoT kinda device ;) I know ye got yer choice already (ref. to IRC convo), but just wanted to post it up :)

  9. Alrighty!

Arcurus, maybe we should list a few examples to the FreiMining thread to open the idea a bit more. The current explanation is a bit hard to grasp/short :)
I'm sure we had them examples written somewhere on the forums.. or mabby it was SILC *hmm*.. but can find 'em now of course, heh. But lets continue with this in the thread:

  10. Hehe, yeah Arc, brrrh! :D We need to get ye an satellite phone for internets access!

Hmmh, yeah, if Bick is not.. ahh, hehe :) You're free for the meetup.
Lets see how other folks might be able to participate, and if we get it going with bunch for Friday, lets collect the questions Arc's interested in and ask for him :)
If its better for Monday for most, lets have some discussion with Arc on the forum during tomorrow and during weekend (I'm planning to visit Helsinki though, so will not be on during sat&sun)

  11. Had to pass the LED group buy miself since lack of time and resources, but used the 600W HPS that I had laying around :) In the end turned out to be good, since the heat was needed anyways :) Been a cold start for the year here in the Viking land, hehe.

I've just finished the latest grow and would be open to have the next one co-op style again (was just me this time). @Bicknellski had some interesting ideas/experiments on his mind too, so maybe one another chance to tie into the FA projects.

Ohh hey Bick, check out this article from hackaday, just came across it a moment ago:

  12. Alright Arcurus :) As we managed to have several folks over at IRC today and it turned out to be a pretty cool way to communicate, so IRC meetup mainly it is ^^
That said though, I'd very gladly have a hangout on Blab or mumble at the same time. We (c/s)ould have the main discussion on the IRC, but also have quick/short followup comments or quizzes on mumble. If we were aiming to be as transparent as possible, we could then publish the IRC logs and mumble/blab recordings afterwards on the internets (on IPFS!!! And of course HASH 'EM ON THE BLOCKCHAIN!!! *hypehype*)? ^^

*edit: ohh yeah, I'll try to draft up some kinda agenda/topics we could wisely fit the 45min we have with maaku. I'll put it up (hopefully) later today and ask yer comments for it :)

Arcurus, when you know your schedule better and find out which one is better for you - Friday or Monday - for the meetup, can ye hit me up on IRC or post it in the hangout thread? :)

(yeah.. I'm pretty sleep deprived... hehe)

  13. Re: Email notifications by default.. NACK :P Hehe, I wouldnt like the idea of having the option on by default, but maybe it'd be possible to have it asked during registration, or on first login, if one wants to enable it :)

The new platform looks pretty cool now when getting a bit used to it. There would seem to be cool hooks (addons) and API's available... *grr* Cant browse some of the IPS's own forums sections though without an account with a license ><

No hurries with them fancy addons for now, but the Info / Tools section that Rik noticed to be missing would be nice to have back! :)

*edit: Ohh, also the IRC webchat is hiding ;)

I will have kids distribute their FRC and they have to write an explanation of what they intend to do with the coins.

The kids have been told this is a no strings attached grant so they can do whatever they want with the FRC as long as they provide a report online to the forum about their plans and usage of the FRC.

Awesome! I'll get the OpenCart shop installed again to have atleast one place to spend their coins :) I've got a lot of textiles, maybe theres some kids in your class that could be attracted to knitting and sewing related stuff, hehe.     .... *hmm* Actually, maybe we can have a Freicoin Giveaway related project, something like this:

    - Put up a Thread for designing anything positive and/or Freicoin related art from textiles, paper/cardboard, flowers, recycled junk, anything!
    - Give anyone that submits an picture of their work certain amount of FRC
-- Static amount like 1 000 FRC (a bit of a budgeting problem)
-- OR allocate like 100 000 FRC and divide equally amongts the participants
? Vote a "winner" for a little bonus and post the work on FA Articles section.
? Do some social media stuff, like tweet it out

I am not able to send anything out of any of my wallets currently. I will back up or reinstall on my phone and try again.

My laptop is having issues  as there are no active connections and no block source available. I uninstalled and reinstalled the wallet and then changed networks still no connection.

I had this problem on my Jolla too, couldnt send but received OK. Had to remove the application and manually remove the files from the app cache.

The node problem is common too and we need to get some stable nodes on the network. I think fedde has one running on his FreiDC.. if not, hopefully he can get one up :) I'll put one up shortly too.
In the meantime, this one has worked for others (add via console with 'addnone'): node.freico.in . It'll take some minutes (theres a bug in the node discovery) to connect.

  16. Saw Mark and Jorge on the #Freicoin IRC channel chat about working on updating the client to catch up with the features implemented in Bitcoin.

Heres a pick from the logs:
"20:50:13 < jtimon> maybe we can do an IRC for you to help some people build freicoin 0.9 and maybe recommend some stuff to test?
    20:50:20 < jtimon> IRC meeting
    20:50:25 < maaku> heh maybe we need a #freicoin-wizards channel
20:50:39 < maaku> yes i think IRC meeting is good
    20:50:54 < maaku> so I have a branch of 0.9 which solves that problem
20:51:17 < maaku> but I got hung up because it doesn't build with latest boost
20:51:23 < maaku> let me see what the status of that is...
    20:51:49 < jtimon> ok @channel, please start suggesting date/hours for a let's-move-to-freicoin-0.9-IRC-meeting
20:52:48 < jtimon> great, I think it will be useful if you can push things for us to try realtime and stuff"

So what we as a community can do to help short term.. that would also, I'd think, help us with the FA stuff as well.. is to help with the updating/testing. Maybe start bounties and/or attach it to the freicoin giveaway.

Where the coin is going now? I've understood that both guys are pretty open to suggestions and opinions from the community and would like some input on that. As we're prettymuch the only active "community" in Freicoin-sphere, we could (should?) influence towards direction that would also help the FA vision. Heh, we dont have our aims straight with FA though.. or atleast I'm still clueless on which project we're going to drive onwards together.. so its a bit of a stuck situation.
I'd really wish we can have that meeting with all of us FA guys attending. If not meeting, lets get our schitt together here in the forums? Or email if people want to keep it private at first?

    Threads for FA meetups:
(if anyones not up for Blab or Voice.. or has other recommendations for easy platform to have the meetups on, please post em on the threads)

  17.

I'd guess its an issue with the theme that the Info and Tools section is missing. Fedde started looking for a better theme the other day, but went missing after that... probably went to raid the swedes for beer.. I heard the snows suprised them norwegians and covered all their storages, so they cant find their own drinks :P

Threw new links for the android .apk's in here:

  18. Ahh daymn Arcurus :I No recording from this time neither.. I was late (weird problems with the forums for me too) and was just Bick and Canin_Able there again.

Maybe we can try the blab again tomorrow? Or Arcurus, if you have the chance to try it today, we can see if it works for you? If it turns out to be too laggy/troublesome, then lets indeed just agree on a time for conversating mainly here on the forums. We can still chat on IRC, Blab, Mumbles, or whatever on the side, but lets have the main points in the forum during the discussing. Then attach the logs of whatever people used when we're done.
