Thanks for your reply, @Mark Friedenbach. Sorry, I didn't see that anyone replied and I had put this problem aside for a while because it was annoying. So, I am trying to use Bitcoin Database Generator. We had rebuilt it with a pull request that was compatible with Segwit. Then it worked but failed parsing after first transaction of blk01133.dat., block 503460. The error is here: https://github.com/ladimolnar/BitcoinBlockchain/pull/2 After trying a number of things, I finally decided to delete blk01133.dat and reload and reindex. Now it fails at blk01132.dat, block 503370.

Changing the proof of work algorithm
Skaro replied to Mark Friedenbach's topic in Freicoin Discussion
I suppose, in terms of a discussion, perhaps the choice of changing the mining algorithm is related to what people want for a Freicoin's future. For example, if Freicoin were to become a sidechain coin, it should be merge minable (I assume). Or, if we are gonna have a transition period, will this prevent other upgrades during that time? I don't think anyone actually financed buying an ASIC to mine Freicoin recently. Rather, they are just pointing old equipment to Freicoin. People could just literally point their CPUs or GPUs at Freicoin the next day after a hard fork. I'm not sure if the -
Does anyone know if there is anything special about Bitcoin block 503460? I'm trying to get this parser working and it craps out at that block.

Installed it! And we no longer have the .exe 64 bit not working problems!

So I got a website on crypto currencies that has 3 pages dedicated to Freicoin. Or maybe its a Freicoin website with a couple extra other pages. It's my first foray in website programming, so its could use some improvements over time. it features: 1) News feed 2) Cryto-currency interactive statistics 3) Multicoin coin trade optimizer 4) a Freicoin mining calculator 5) grouping of Freicoin public keys 6) Summary of Freicoin Foundation transactions Currently, the Freicoin database is not updated automatically, but with MYSQL dumps. The website is here: ht

Would it be possible that Mark and Timon's bios could be updated on Freico.in to include founding BlockStream, developing for Bitcoin Core , SegWit, MAST, and Lightning ... (those small resume building summer jobs)

Hey I just felt like chatting to people about Solidar.

@jtimon and @Mark Friedenbach, may I ask how the Foundation closure is coming along? After the last couple comments here, the direction to end the Foundation wasn't quite decided.

@Mark Friedenbach My other question...So I had estimated total Bitcoin fees paid last year were about 3.5% of total currency supply (I think that was a low estimate because the fees had spiked). I wanted to compare this with the Freicoin demurrage fee of 5.0%. Is this a reasonable comparison? I was wondering, if Freicoin circulation was like Bitcoin's, would users be also adding an extra fee to increase their transaction speed? Ignoring the SegWit and the fact that only 60% of BTC has been issued etc.

@Mark Friedenbach Our explorer runs on ABE, which I don't think is actively supported anymore. I was wondering what has to be done to accommodate Segwit and new tech. For example, could you send me a link to explain the new block structure? Any such helpful references would be appreciated.

So this pegging is mostly about having a stream lined updated code that is then presumably better able to handle the new tech. So is the question of money supply and reward still mostly an arbitrary choice in this code upgrade? Are you trying to compensate for lost wallets? I'm certainly not an expert in regulations but .., my dad is a CA ;-). I would think that regulators would not be entirely looking into technical details but will also be asking general questions like where was the Foundation money before and with whom did the power lie, and where is it after? Also, the conspiracy the

It seems the idea of 2:1 the currency is a smart way of realizing option 3.

Well, I'll be ready! With the 0.9 wallet, I learned how to compile it on my Mac, because my linux computer was 32 bit and Windows is crap. Once my home renos are done, I'll be buying a new 64 bit tower to run linux, and will be eagerly anticipating testing/compilling the next wallet! (PS I still think its rather cool that I am the only one running a 0.9 on my MAC :-p)

Freicoin does not have basic income. It has a demurrage fee of 5% per year. This is achieved be the wallets simply destroying the funds. Simultaneously, 5% per year is newly generated and awarded to miners, 96 FRC per block. In order to come to this zero inflation system quickly, all Freicoin money supply was issued in 3 years. To experiment with alternative distribution methods, The Freicoin Foundation was created and 80% of the 'minted' currency was sent there. No alternative distribution method was ever created and the Foundation funds have been mostly untouched. We recently decided to dest
