Skaro 129
@Mark Friedenbach Our explorer runs on ABE, which I don't think is actively supported anymore. I was wondering what has to be done to accommodate Segwit and new tech. For example, could you send me a link to explain the new block structure? Any such helpful references would be appreciated. Mark Friedenbach 92
Bitcoin or Freicoin? Freicoin obviously doesn't have segwit until we complete rebasing and activation. Segwit is fairly well described in the bitcoin developer documentation on bitcoin.org, but probably the best thing to do is to switch over to an actively maintained bitcoin block explorer. I don't have a specific recommendation but I know here are several. Rik8119
Skaro 129
@Mark Friedenbach My other question...So I had estimated total Bitcoin fees paid last year were about 3.5% of total currency supply (I think that was a low estimate because the fees had spiked). I wanted to compare this with the Freicoin demurrage fee of 5.0%. Is this a reasonable comparison? I was wondering, if Freicoin circulation was like Bitcoin's, would users be also adding an extra fee to increase their transaction speed? Ignoring the SegWit and the fact that only 60% of BTC has been issued etc.
Arcurus 331
@Skaro currently in Freicoin the demurrage fee is not used as transaction fee. Therefore yes users would have to pay more transaction fees if in the future Freicoin is widely used and the block limit stays similar to Bitcoin Core. Theoretically it would be possible to use the demurrage fee as transaction fee. This could look like this: In an given block a part* of the block-reward is assigned to transactions as additional paid fee*** according to how much demurrage they pay (similar to coin age the transaction destroys). This could be implemented as soft fork. This could also help to reduce that transactions get stuck because of not paying enough fees As benefit this would also increase temporally the block reward and therefore attract more mining power** if more transactions need to be confirmed, and lower the reward if less transactions need to be confirmed. This would therefore increase the blocktime on days where lot of transactions need to be confirmed and reduce on days when less transactions need to be confirmed. As side effect this would increased the capacity in case of need and reduce in case of not need, and therefore balance out the transaction fees (more easy to calculate). * the more Freicoin is used the higher this percentage could be * in practice the exact in this way assigned block reward should be averaged over a longer time period like 2 weeks * it would be good to use the log(demurrage) instead of demurrage for this distribution, this would benefit users that transact regularly. ** only if in competition for mining power with other coins *** it could be good practice to distribute the fees over the next X lets say 10 blocks, so that an individual miner has not much benefit in creating more transactions to get more fees then other miners. More to that we can discuss here: Bicknellski
