  1. A little bit of a technical update I want to share. As part of the refactoring and rebasing effort I've worked out a way to eliminate Freicoin's extra dependencies while at the same time achieving a 10x performance boost for the mathematical calculations we use these libraries for. I'm quite excited about this, although for reasons that might be obscure for those without a technical background. If you don't understand this post, that's okay. The TL;DR is that we can make Freicoin faster while further aligning the code base with bitcoin to minimize the maintenance burden. Freicoin uses the

We had the nomination from a local enterprises' pool of an italian South Italy city with about 160.00 inhabitants, to make a proposal for a local economic system based on a demurraged currency, basic income and free loans to enterprises. Our deal is to make a new Worgl experiment, the italian one! We have the guarantee that enterprises' pool will accept the currency and that the city major will accept the currency in payment for local taxes. We're going to work to a system based on negative ra

My priority regarding Freicoin is starting to do rebases much faster and continuously, getting all the new improvements, bugfixes and features. As for new consensus changes features, apart from those included in more modern versions of bitcoin (cltv[bip65], csv[bip68/bip112], segwit[bip141]), it would be nice to get features from https://elementsproject.org/ which now also rebases periodically. 4. Update: Release v0.8.6.2-5 has been posted to the freicoin website. This is a maintenance-only release that has no new features. Rather, it only takes the final step of stripping out the dependency on GNU MP and MPFR entirely, such that they are no longer needed even as build-time requirements. Notes for v0.8.6.1-4: There’s been a new release posted to the official freicoin website: v0.8.6.1-4. This release introduces the new integer-math-only demurrage calculation code as a soft-fork change to the consensus rules — the approximations in the integer math can make the result differ from th

  6. > Is there still a need to have a refheight in the Freicoin transaction if so why? There's a couple of ways I can answer this question. First, there is always a need for refheight in Freicoin transactions just by definition: it would be a hard-forking consensus change to remove them. This is the technically correct answer but mention it only for completeness as I assume it's not what you meant. This doesn't affect the need for reference heights in any fundamental way. Reference heights address a problem that generally applies to demurrage in bitcoin-like block chains: the dem

A necessary premise, is that in this moment there is in Italy a growing debate about complementary currencies and there are several proposals by political parties. The matter is that the most of this people doesn't have any idea about what they are talking, but it's the mode and so everybody must say it's opinion. The other problem is that the Faz Project is based on a theory, and for understand deeply it's working way you must to study a bit, maybe some more than a bit. The most of p

Hi again, since my commet is off topic for the other threads it fits most in here. Thanks to @fedde 's exchange, the fresh ideas from @Skaro , @Adilado and @jtimon i am now again looking at freicoin with confidence. I am really exited to see the "freiexchange 2.0" in action and think that we will find a way to adopt Freicoin to the new situation to make up a worldwide freiconomy without debt and dangerous bubbles, because that was what we are here for since 2013. I am now fully in FRC again and given up the positions in all other coins feeling good with it. I hope our ( @Bicknellski , @A

  10. I vote option 1. I will share what I am thinking: I was never very comfortable with the idea of the foundation, because to me the idea of Bitcoin is using clever mathematics to avoid politics. A foundation picking winners and losers is the definition of politics, and I wasn't comfortable with being in that position. There was some thought to use the foundation coin to come up with a provably fair way to distribute the foundation coins with a "faucet". But in my opinion this would take a level of mathematical innovation on the level of Bitcoin itself, and we are very unlikely to solve

I’ll avoid mentioning it by name because I want to speak to the Freicoin community here, not people finding this thread through Google. Why are Jorge and myself proponents of sidechains? The new chain would also have its own subsidy so, if all goes well, there is a period of coexistence where both chains are used, until the peg pool is exhausted and the old chain is archived. This sounds, in principle, as a very bad idea to me.

  23. I can't agree enough that we are currently limited by developer time. We need more developers. However I'm very cautious about the ICO craze. ICOs are securities offerings, and doing or promoting an unlicensed securities offering is a serious offense punished by massive fines, jail time, and a lifetime ban of working in the industry. People haven't been burned ... yet. But it's just a matter of time. It can be frustrating to watch developers with nearly zero experience raise huge sums of money for poorly defined projects, and even more frustrating to see the biggest offenders get a pass b

So there's a little bit of double-dipping there. If not moved within certain amount of days/blocks -> destroy/redistribute/whatever. Theres some neat technologies being built and getting realeases in the not-so-far-distant future, so could be useful to have the foundation coins for some use cases which might come available later. From what I understand, sidechains / drivechains will bring a lot of new possibilities for distribution mechanisms and other logics

    Future of Freicoin

Freicoin was almost dead and has recently come back through grass roots efforts: Fedde built a new exchange, and a new explorer was built showing demurrage paid. There was a wallet update last August. These efforts are continuing. In the works are updating p2pool software, updating wallets, and Fedde's exchange will be expanding to include other crypto-currencies all trading relative to FRC. The demurrage aspect of the currency means the coin is designed for spending and not speculating. Nevertheless, the present potential for value rise far exceeds the annual 5% demurrage fe

Merged mining is working much better as i expected it. Though it was quite a hard time (took me two month of my free time) to implement it but i was eager to put it into two commits on github, so that it is a copy and paste job to integrate it into freicoin -maybe it could be done also through a single push request.

We in the FRC Alliance are keen on working towards Universal Income and we have as a key point in our plans. But to do that we need a viable coin.
